N.Z. decided to buy COVID-19 vaccine for neighboring countries as well

New Zealand announced that it is buying enough COVID-19 vaccine not only for its compatriots but also for the people of all neighboring Pacific islands.

According to media reports, New Zealand intends to provide free vaccinations to New Zealand – controlled New Zealand, as well as neighboring Tokelau, Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu.

New Zealand hopes to buy Pfizer-Bio-Entech, Oxford-Astra Zeneca and Novax COVID-19 vaccines.

They will also buy 7.8 million doses of the Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine and 10.72 million doses of the Novax COVID-19 vaccine. That’s enough for a population of 9.1 million.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said during a news conference that the effort would be the country’s largest immunization rollout ever.
