UNITED KINGDOM : Mike Hill, a Labor MP from Britain’s Hartlepool constituency, resigned last March. It was reported that he resigned from his membership due to the pressure of the sexual harassment charge against him.
Following this, by-elections for the Hartlepool constituency were held in conjunction with the British Council elections held yesterday. There were 16 candidates contesting in this by-election.
Conservative candidate Jill Mortimer has been declared the winner with 15,529 votes, according to the results released today. Williams received only 8,589 votes, as did Labor, the main candidate against him.
