Australia's first opportunity to build nuclear submarines

AUSTRALIA : The United States, Britain and Australia have joined forces in a joint venture called AUKUS.

Amid fears of China’s growing influence and military proliferation in the Indo-Pacific region, these countries have come together to share advanced security technologies to counter China.

The partnership will give Australia the opportunity to build nuclear submarines for the first time.

The joint venture will also include artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and cyber technology.

In order to participate in this agreement, Australia has canceled the agreement to build a submarine designed by France.

France had contracted to build 12 submarines for the Australian Navy. It is Australia’s largest arms logistics deal.

However, the project was delayed due to the fact that the contract for the construction of the submarines was to be procured mostly locally.

It was at this point that US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison released a report on the new joint project called AUKUS.

However, it also made it clear that Australia would remain committed to remaining a nuclear – free country.
